Veteran’s Corner
Jason Hicks | Commander United Patriotic bodies
Fargo Memorial Honor Guard
As the year 2024 closes I am very thankful for the continuous support our community gives our Veterans. As the commander of the Fargo Memorial Honor Guard and the United Patriotic Bodies I see this constantly. As Veterans we love our country and the support given to us is good for the soul.
When we fire a three round volley and play taps, the feeling is amazing, there is truly nothing better, to be able to give back to a Veterans family in a very difficult time. This year at the Fargo National cemetery we conducted military honors to over 175 Veterans. As many know we have interned over 890 Veterans in this sacred ground since opening in 2019.
We are still gaining support for our building project. I hope to have really big news next year regarding this project. You see we are the first project of this kind in the entire country. After being being told no more times than I can count we are moving forward. (This is one of those instances of my thick headed Norwegian heritage paid off) You see we want the experience of the Fargo National Cemetery to be one of comfort and a positive experience. There are needs for a building to hold the ceremony. You see there is nothing for protection against the elements, it is ND farmland/prairie at its finest and when the wind blows and the temp drops it becomes a little harsh. So why not do better? It was made very clear that the Federal Government would not build a structure, so through a series of negotiations (Thank you Senator Hoeven) we are making this a reality. Stay tuned folks, more to come. Thank you and god bless America.
