INFORMATIONAL PRESENTATION ON OPIOID ABUSE
MOORHEAD – The Moorhead Public Library has scheduled an opioid overdose response training session on Thursday, December 5 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. The training will cover how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose and administer Narcan, which is a medication that can treat a narcotic overdose in an emergency situation. All participants will be offered free Narcan following the training. The training will be facilitated by a representative from Clay County Public Health and is offered free-of-charge.

HJEMKOMST CENTER TO RECEIVE SECURITY CAMERAS
The City partnered with the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County to receive a grant for $62,000 to install security cameras at the Hjemkomst.
MOORHEAD – Through collaborative efforts with the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County, the City of Moorhead successfully acquired $62,000 of grant funds specifically allocated for security improvements at the Hjemkomst Center. This grant allows for enhanced safety and security both inside and outside of the building. This project was made possible in part by the people of Minnesota through a grant funded by an appropriation to the Minnesota Historical Society from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
The Hjemkomst Center is not only a community gathering place but also a site of significant cultural and historical value. The installation of security cameras will help safeguard the exhibits, artifacts, and the overall integrity of the facility. This grant is a step toward ensuring that future generations can continue to learn from and be inspired by the rich history and culture that the Hjemkomst Center represents.
The City is proud to partner with the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County to secure grant funding for this important security upgrade. This partnership highlights the shared dedication to protecting the Hjemkomst Center, a cherished landmark, and the valuable cultural and historical assets housed within it.

MINNESOTA DNR TO HOLD OPEN HOUSE ON BUFFALO RIVER STATE PARK MANAGEMENT PLAN
The new plan will guide future recreation opportunities, resource management and interpretation at the park.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is initiating updates to the Buffalo River State Park management plan to guide future development and operations.
The new management plan will set the direction for the park for the next 15 to 20 years. It will include recommendations for managing natural and cultural resources and providing recreational and interpretative opportunities to park visitors.
The DNR invites those interested in providing input to an open house on Monday, Dec. 9 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Minnesota State University Moorhead Regional Science Center, 663 164th St. So., Glyndon.
DNR staff will provide information on natural and cultural resources, interpretation and recreation opportunities at the park. The public will have the opportunity to share some of their initial ideas on what they would like to see at the park in the future. There will also be information about the planning process, timeline and how to get involved.
Buffalo River State Park is located 14 miles east of Moorhead and sits along the winding Buffalo River. Many of its facilities were built by the Works Progress Administration in the late 1930s and early 1940s and are on the National Register of Historic Places. The native and restored prairie within the park, and the adjoining Bluestem Prairie Scientific and Natural Area, is judged to be one of the largest and best of the state’s prairie preserves. Visitors can enjoy riverside hiking trails through old-growth forest, with plenty of opportunities for picnicking, fishing, birding and wildlife viewing throughout the park. For overnight visitors, there is a seasonal campground and group camp.

MITTEN TREES ACCEPTING DONATIONS AT FARGO PUBLIC LIBRARIES
Donated items will be provided to community members in need this winter.
FARGO -With cold temperatures upon us, Fargo’s libraries are spreading warmth by helping those in our community who need it most.
All three Fargo Public Library locations have mitten trees and are accepting donations of new or very gently used and cleaned cold weather gear such as mittens, gloves, hats, scarves and socks. Handmade and purchased items are welcome. The donated items will be provided to members of the community in need this winter. FREE ENTRANCE TO MINNESOTA STATE PARKS AND RECREATION AREAS ON FRIDAY, NOV. 29
Minnesotans encouraged to explore outdoors with friends and family over the holiday weekend.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is waiving entrance fees to all 73 state parks and recreation areas the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 29. This “Free Park Day” is one of four days each year when the DNR waives the requirement for a vehicle permit for state parks and recreation areas. The goal of Free Park Days is to encourage Minnesotans to get outdoors and enjoy the health and wellness benefits of spending time in nature.

The City of Fargo Announces “Name a Snow Plow” Contest
Names that are Fargo or North Dakota-centric will be awarded extra points
FARGO – The City of Fargo is calling on all creative minds to help name the City’s snow plows for the 2024-2025 winter season. The City is launching its “Name a Snow Plow” contest and inviting residents to submit their most original names for a chance to see them featured on Fargo’s snow plows. To submit entries and learn more about the contest, please visit FargoND.gov/NameaPlow. The deadline for entries is Thursday, December 5.
Contest Rules
Names must be 20 characters or fewer and three words or fewer.
Names that are Fargo or North Dakota-centric will be awarded extra points.
Names must be original and not violate copyright or trademark laws.
Names cannot include profanity or inappropriate language.
If a name is submitted multiple times, the first entry received will be considered.
Up to three entries per person are allowed.
The contest is open to Fargo residents, ages 13 and older.
Public Vote
Once all entries are submitted, the Public Works Department, Engineering Department and Fargo City Commission members will choose 10 finalists based on creativity, originality and overall appeal. The finalists will be posted on The City of Fargo’s social media channels for a public vote. The names with the most “likes” across all social media platforms will be featured on the snow plows. Individuals who submit winning names will appear in a video shared on the City’s social media channels.

MSUM hosts Winter Celebration of the Arts Dec. 6
MOORHEAD – Minnesota State University will host its annual Winter Celebration of the Arts on Friday, Dec. 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts.
Experience the talents of MSUM art, film, graphic and interactive design, English and music students with the university’s seasonal showcase of film screenings, poetry readings, art exhibits, choir and instrumental ensembles and more. Guests can also shop local for unique gifts at the student art sale.
A food and cash bar (beer & wine) and other beverages will be available. Tickets are $10 and are available at mnstate.edu/tickets.
