The business side of Moorhead Public Service plans to move out of City Hall at the end of the day on Friday, Oct. 18.
Other city departments now occupying City Hall are also moving this month. Unlike MPS, though, the majority are moving across Center Avenue to the FM Center, formerly known as the FM Hotel and US Bank. When complete at month’s end, all but Public Service will be operating on the first, fifth and seventh floors of the downtown landmark. A service center open to the public is planned for the ground level.
MPS, however, is relocating to leased space in the Shoppes on 10, the strip center at 2901 South Frontage Road along Highway 10. While operational staff remains in the city water plant on Highway 75, the 10 employees who work with the public on billing for utilities, water, sanitation and other services encompassed by residents’ monthly billings will be available at the drive-up site.
MPS director Travis Schmidt notes that clients will be able to make payments at the new location starting Monday, Oct. 21; they may continue to use the City Hall office and drop box until the previous Friday. Office hours will continue to be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. An after-hours drop box will also be installed at the Highway 10 office.
Like other city departments, the MPS move is only temporary. It will return downtown when the remodeling of City Hall is complete in 2026.
