Veteran’s Corner
Tom Krabbenhoft
Greetings one and all, summer is slipping away like sand in the hand. There are a few happenings in the veterans community to talk about.
Saturday July 20th. The Brady Oberg Legacy Foundation is having their annual motorcycle/car run that begins at the Nordic lounge in Ulen. Registration starts at 11am, takeoff is noon. A free-will donation is asked for participating. Any questions please visit their Facebook for more information.
Thanks to the Obergs for all they do for veterans.
A replica of the Vietnam Veterans memorial wall is coming to town and will be at the Moorhead Legion. It will be open 24/7. Opening ceremonies will kick off on July 25th, at 3pm. This is a big deal and a prestigious honor to have it here in Moorhead. Please get out there and see it.
I have to thank Window World Fargo. They sponsored the Hairball concert at the Red River Valley Fair on July 4th. I secured many VIP tickets for the concert from them and made sure veterans received them. Concerts can be a very difficult thing for some vets.
Social anxiety, being uncomfortable in crowds, hypervigilance and the sensory overload of a concert can be overwhelming.
Getting to view the concert from where they were allowed the veterans elbow room and a not so stressful environment.
I heard one vet proclaim “I haven’t been to a concert since 9/11” and “I’m enjoying this a lot more than I thought I would.” It was really a great thing Window World did.
Window World has a military initiative program. The initiative covers employment, community outreach and partnerships. Please see their website for more details.
While you are out and about this summer I encourage you to stop at a service club, no matter what town you are in. Legions, VFW and AMVETS are open to the public. Please check them out, maybe they have that thing you are looking for to volunteer.
