Drs. Matt Gilbertson and Matt Lau, along with their staff, broke ground Tuesday on the first new commercial structure going up in the downtown redevelopment area. The new Downtown Chiropractic will occupy 12,000 square feet on the ground floor of 650 Center, the mixed-use development being constructed by Kevin Bartram’s Sterling Development Group Four.
Downtown Chiropractic’s new facility will triple the size of the 52-year-old practice’s quarters in the Center Mall. Its new area, facing south on Center Avenue, will house not only the two chiropractors’ offices and treatment areas, but also massage and related therapies including ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation, orthotics and rehabilitative exercise.
Bartram is constructing two buildings on the site east of the former United Sugars building. In addition to the commercial space, each of the four-story structures will house one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments joined on the ground floor by a parking garage with an outdoor plaza on its roof. The estimated investment in the full project is $25 million.
Downtown Chiropractic will continue to operate in its present location on the east end of the mall until the new building is ready for occupancy.
