Veteran’s Corner
Tom Krabbenhoft
Greetings, it’s looking like our nice winter was going for one last grasp. I’ll dare day spring is here slipping into summer quickly.
Springtime brings us all kinds of renewal and unfortunately cleaning.
I found a disabled veteran owned business called, Clean it or Can it. One thing I cannot stand is cleaning my garbage bins/cans. It’s a nasty but necessary task.
They came over and had both my bins done in ten minutes. No mess was left behind. The bins looked brand new and even smelled good.
You can call them at 701 936-1313, email@ info@cleanitorcanit
Business ventures are always risky, especially for veterans. Veterans often jump into a business venture without the business education acumen needed. Defending the country vs. attending school are two different worlds. What a veteran lacks in education they will make up for with hard work and iron will. Another drawback veterans have is injuries. My neck and back injuries make it difficult for me to do some tasks. Cleaning my trash bins is a prime example. With injuries often stamina issues follow.
Sometime a dream and solid work ethic is not enough. The VA, SBA, SCORE or some private banks offer business plans, assistance and even lower startup loans for veterans. A lot of these programs are based on veterans disability, years served and military occupation. The military services has some occupations that are in high demand in the civilian sector. Sadly us military knuckle daggers (combat arms) not so much.

Recently visiting South Padre Islands I was wowed by the amount of history around the area. Everything from wrecked Spanish ships to the Confederate and Union Armies occupied. Also a lighthouse that was control by the Union and Confederacy.
Modern history a drug smuggling hub, and homeland security tip of the spear. Elon Musk has one of his SpaceX stations there. I enjoy asking long term local questions and let them. I found that is the best way to pick up the flavor of an area. The best always comes out from the young, old and law enforcement. I asked about the nearby border and they all sounded the same. I could write for articles for weeks on how each group was affected.
It was a really unique area where several stages of a developing America loved a strong foundation.
