Clay County Commission

Curt Cannon has been re-appointed to another four-year term as Clay County Veterans Service Officer at the Clay County Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday in Moorhead.
Cannon received unanimous support from both the board and the county administrator.
“I think Curt continues to be a strong advocate for the veterans of Clay County,” said Stephen Larson, Clay County administrator.. “He really has a servant heart to working with veterans. If there’s an event in the Fargo-Moorhead area, you’re going to see him there, whether it’s an evening, a weekend or holiday. And also this past year, he’s been a strong advocate at the (state) Legislature in providing testimony in regards to DMV benefits for veterans, which ultimately ended up in passing.”
Commissioner David Ebinger, Dist. 5, provided additional anecdotal support for Cannon.
“Mr. Cannon not only provides services to our Clay County veterans, but he is a leader and a mentor in other counties where they’ve had problems getting veterans service officers or training them to the standards he meets. He’s been a great asset not just to our community but the communities around us.”
Commissioner Kevin Campbell, Dist. 4, also recounted Cannon’s loyal involvement within the veterans community.
“I had an opportunity to go to a service for an unclaimed veteran out at the (Fargo) National Cemetery, and he was one of the first persons I saw there. And on Sunday morning I went to a breakfast that was held by the F-M Legion Riders who support a lot of veterans issues, and who walks in but Mr. Cannon.”
Cannon humbly responded to the comments.
“The unclaimed (veterans) is pretty important around here when they have no families,” Cannon said. “There are 50 or 60 of us that try to make it. But there are so many events … it’s not humanly possible to get to them all.”
Cannon was unanimously approved for the new term. He was also approved for out-of-state travel by the board for veterans service training in May.
