FIRST MOORHEAD CITIZENS GOVERNMENT ACADEMY
MOORHEAD – Want to take an in-depth look at how Moorhead city government functions? The City of Moorhead is excited to unveil a new opportunity to increase civic engagement and education in our community. The Citizens Government Academy will help residents learn about the inner workings of municipal government, including operations and policymaking.
Attendees of the program must be Moorhead residents who are interested in learning more about how their government functions and what it does for citizens. Each week, attendees will participate in a discussion and activities led by City department leaders. Attendees will be encouraged to ask questions of City staff.
While attendees will have the opportunity to learn about how City government functions, it will also give City employees a better understanding about what intrigues residents.
Apply today be in the first class of the Citizens Government Academy. After seven informative weekly sessions, the class is invited to a City Council meeting to be officially recognized as graduates of the Citizens Government Academy.
Application deadline is February 17, but class size is limited to the first 24 applicants who are Moorhead residents and are 18 and over, so don’t wait to apply now!

Academy dates are Tuesdays, 5:30 – 8 pm from March 7-April 18 with graduation at the April 24 City Council meeting
Classes will held primarily in the Hjemkomst Center Oak Room (one class at the Law Enforcement Center and one at the Wastewater Treatment Facility).
LEGAL KIOSK AVAILABLE AT THE DOWNTOWN MAIN LIBRARY
FARGO – In partnership with Legal Services of North Dakota (LSND), the downtown Main Fargo Public Library has a Legal Kiosk station as part of the Legal Kiosk Project initiative. The kiosk is a self-help station for North Dakota legal information, it is ADA accessible and available for use during regular library hours. The kiosk offers residents access to legal education, resources and information on topics such as housing, custody, immigration and public benefits.
The public can also use the station to apply for civil legal aid services and to contact a legal aid provider. For more information, contact the Main Library Adult Services Desk at 701.241.1492.
STORYTIME FEATURING METEOROLOGIST LYDIA BLUME
MOORHEAD – Toddlers, pre-schoolers and families are invited to a weather-themed Storytime at the Moorhead Public Library featuring special guest WDAY Meteorologist Lydia Blume. Blume will join library staff to share winter-themed stories, songs, rhymes, and activities geared for children ages 3-6. This program is offered free-of-charge as part of Frostival and will be held Saturday, February 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the Moorhead Public Library, 118 5th St. S.
CONCORDIA TO HOST DEFENDER OF FREE SPEECH
MOORHEAD – The Lorentzsen Center for Faith and Work at Concordia College continues its exploration of the question “How do we build a more trustworthy world?” in February’s: “Free Speech, Censorship, and Controversy: A Conversation with Nadine Strossen” from noon-1 p.m. CST Wednesday, Feb. 15. The event is a hybrid in-person (limited seating) and virtual conversation in Barry Auditorium in the Grant Center.
