U.F.O.s in the Valley
and Beyond

We were driving north on Highway 75 in the Red River Valley Dec. 24, 1974 before suppertime. The weather was mild for a Christmas evening, the sky was clear. We were traveling home for the holiday. Kaye and I were 23 at the time. I had known Kaye Lervold since we were both 4-years-old. She is the first friend I ever had; we are life-long friends. My 4-year-old son, Nathan, was in the back seat of the car.

Several miles north of Georgetown, I noticed lights in the sky. On the outside of the tree claim as part of a farmstead, but alongside with no brush or trees underneath, hovered a flying object. I refer to it in that manner because there was nothing holding it up but yet it remained in a suspended pattern above the ground and alongside this tree grove. If the occupants of the farm heard or saw anything, I never knew.

But it is what it is. This saucer-like object, just like you’ve seen in the sci-fi movies, metallic, shiny, silvery-gray, had a row of lights which looked as though they moved in a circle around the widest part of the vessel. The lights were of one color, a soft yellowish.-white, and looked like they moved in a circle around the craft, but of course they didn’t move but flickered on and off in a pattern that seemed to run around the edge of the ship.

I will never forget the image of that night. I stopped the car; I certainly wanted to go investigate. My first thought was my son, and the danger that getting closer to the object might create for him. I said to Kaye, “Should we drive closer?”

There was no road directly to the farm from Highway 75. It appeared we would have to go to the next turnoff and weave back to the farm where the spaceship still hovered. If the ship saw us, still sitting on Highway 75, there was no sign or indication from the aliens. Nathan wanted to see his grandma and grandpa. It was nearly 4:30 p.m. Christmas Eve.

I felt compelled to stay and watch but the dusk was upon us and the lights were shining brighter on the object we watched intently. Kaye said, “I want to go home; I haven’t seen my folks for a long time.” I hadn’t either and I was concerned for Nathan and the safety of us all. We drove north to Halstad; we had a wonderful holiday with our families. We seldom spoke of the incident again. Every time I pass that farm on my way to Halstad, I think of the alien ship I am certain we all saw that evening.

The experience is not dissimilar to other accounts of alien ships we believe must be from other planets. Some people report seeing them in numbers, darting about the sky faster than anything earthlings have been able to create.

People have been reluctant to tell their personal experiences in sightings of UFOs. For fear of being thought a nut case, many people don’t share their stories. Why are humans so arrogant to think that ours is the only inhabitable planet? We know our universe is full of other galaxies; why would these other galaxies not also have planets that would support life? Maybe not life as we know it, or similar to humans, but life nonetheless, and life which might be more sophisticated than what they find on Earth.

It was reported June 16 by www.openminds.tv that Argentina is creating an official UFO Commission whose mission is to: “To document, analyze and study unidentified phenomena in an orderly, systematic and truthful manner by means of conventional control systems on the airspace under the National Jurisdiction.”

It is commonly known that the US has been monitoring and documenting UFO activity for many decades but our government won’t talk about it on the record. Some of the regular guests on Coast to Coast AM, a radio talk show hosted by George Noory, whose topics often center on the paranormal, believe that the government is communicating and even trading citizens with other planets. A disc-shaped UFO over South Kearny, NJ was reported on www.coasttocoastam.com Friday, June 17. This was witnessed and photographed by a woman at work and reported in The Jersey Journal. Photos are published on the web site.

Jessica Balboa of Barnesville told me her personal UFO story: “Christi Jacobson and I experienced seeing a UFO approximately 14-15 years ago. The color of the light was a bright clear light, kind of like a light bulb’s rays. It was oval and it appeared to be saucer shaped. This UFO sighting occurred in South Fargo two blocks off of University behind the Mini-Mart. It wasnt too far above the houses and trees. It was moving really slowly. At first when I saw it, I honestly thought to myself I was seeing things. This only happens in the movies. I knew right away that it was an UFO. In my 32 years of life I have never seen anything close to it. We were approximately one to two blocks from it. It was 4-6 a.m. I think the reason why we both didnt talk about it is because we were both in shock. We couldnt believe what we were seeing. We did talk to each other about it, but it was like an hour or two later.”

Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) was a well-respected and admired American psychic from Kentucky who, while in a trance, claimed to answer questions about some of the most mysterious questions in the universe. He founded many organizations which are still in existence today, such as the Association for Research and Enlightenment. Cayce’s writings, which may be found at: www.edgarcayce.org, include his interpretation of other beings inhabiting the earth. “The entity was among the priestesses of the Mayan experience. It was just before … those that were visiting from other worlds or planets.” (1616-1) Here’s another: “Man may become, with the people of the universe, ruler of any of the various spheres through which the soul passes in its experiences.”

Marie Hilton was in Fresno, CA. when she saw a UFO: “I was in the downtown district, the older part of Fresno. We happened to go out on the porch one fall late afternoon, early evening. We had to move some things out for a yard sale. We were standing there for a second, and looked across the street to the house. Above the house, maybe 100-150 feet away, some of the tree tops were just below, and all we could see was the bottom of this thing and a ring of light. It might have been different densities of light, a red-orange light, like a carousel circle, it came slowly over the house in increments into almost a full circle, blinking on and off in a circle and just sat there over the house across the street. The guy across the street was on his porch, under the eve of the house and he couldn’t see the object. We were standing out on the street under him afraid to say anything to him. We felt like we were being watched. We felt very uncomfortable. My neighbor was with me, my son was with me and we were afraid to say anything. We watched it maybe a minute or two and it shot in an angle straight up, almost straight up, like maybe a one-o’clock angle, where you could see nothing but a pinhole of light. Like you were watching circles become a dot. It must have been 150-200 feet across, over two city lots. It went straight up. We turned around and there was another one, scooting over the tree tops to the right of us. We were two houses from the street corner. It was not as big as the other one, and it just edged its way across downtown straight; we watched it for 3 miles, across the edge of town, southwest of us. Like that was it. It was our experience. It totally blew us away. My son was 17 at the time. We just stood there and looked at each other like, “What just happened?” We didn’t talk about it; we just went in the house and took care of the yard sale stuff later. We talked to each other later that week; I tried to make light of it for my son.”

There have been thousands of sightings. Hollywood has made a handful of movies about alien invasions and UFO encounters. Why is the public so reluctant to believe? Wouldn’t it make a difference if our government confessed to their interest, involvement and knowledge about such sightings and activities? Most people believe it is just a matter of time until we receive up close and personal knowledge of UFOs. There is the fear factor, but if our government admitted what they knew wouldn’t that be the first step in preparing a public that has heard and had suspicions about UFOs for decades?

An example of government cover-up was reported by Curt Eriksmoen in the Sunday, June 19 Forum article about Air Guard pilot George Gorman’s adventure October 1, 1948 while flying a P-51 Mustang over Fargo. Observers on the ground confirmed the story Gorman told about an object traveling “600 miles per hour” making a “180-degree turn,” Gorman’s attempt to crash into it when it “veered upward and passed over him.” Upon speaking to his commanding officer, Gorman was subsequently instructed to not speak publicly of the incident or “be subject to a court-martial.” The Forum article concludes that until his death, Gorman relayed to friends that it was no weather balloon, as the Air Force insisted, that he fought in the air for 27 minutes that October 1948 day.

Linda Moulton Howe publishes www.earthfiles.com which contains many news reports from all over the world. Earthfiles reported on June 7 that the Australian Department of Defence said all but two of the UFO files have been destroyed, in response to a Sydney Morning Herald, Freedom of Information Act request for UFO files,

Life is filled with interesting and unbelievable mysteries. Are UFOs really a mystery? Are they a phenomenon that some open-minded people experience? What would you do if you saw a UFO? What about the people who have been taken and examined by UFOs? Would that not alter the course of your life? These are just some of the questions surrounding these unusual experiences. Some questions won’t go away until we get a lot more answers. Maybe time will tell.
