MOORHEAD PUBLIC SERVICE IMPLEMENTS MANDATORY WATERING RESTRICTIONS

MOORHEAD – Moorhead Public Service (MPS) has implemented Stage 1 mandatory water use restrictions for residents of both Moorhead and Dilworth. Due to Minnesota’s continued and widespread drought conditions, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has implemented the next provision in the Minnesota Statewide Drought Plan, indicating Minnesota is now in a drought warning phase.

A drought warning phase means each Minnesota public water supplier must implement water use restrictions in accordance with their Water Supply Plan. MPS is implementing Stage 1 mandatory watering restrictions in compliance with this designation.

MPS’ Water Supply Plan includes actions such as even-odd number outdoor watering restrictions. Lawn watering and car washing will be limited to all residents based on their street address. All residents with an address ending in an even number may use water for lawn watering and car washing on days ending with an even number only. All residents with an address ending in an odd number may use water for lawn watering and car washing on days ending with an odd number only.

 Example:

Address of 2158 waters on 22nd day of month (even day)

Address of 2157 waters on 23rd day of month (odd day)

In addition to the even-odd number restrictions, MPS strongly encourages that all non-essential water use for lawns, including watering of city park space and athletic spaces should only occur during overnight hours (8:00 pm to 8:00 am). Watering during daylight hours, especially during high temperatures, causes most of the water to evaporate. Significant water use reduction is achievable by restricting non-essential outdoor water use, especially lawn irrigation, power washing buildings, washing cars, and filling swimming pools.

The following uses are exempt from the watering restrictions:

Gardens

Flowers

Newly-planted trees and shrubs

Newly-sodded or seeded lawns

Any person found violating the watering restrictions may be subject to fines.

At this time, Moorhead and Dilworth have an ample supply of water to meet current demands. MPS’ Water Division staff is implementing these restrictions to ensure efficient use of our water resources. MPS will continue to provide updated information as needed.

SE MAIN|20 ST|21 ST UNDERPASS PROJECT CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

MOORHEAD – The SE Main | 20 St | 21 St Underpass is approximately 80% complete.

Temporary hay bales are being removed and replaced with sound dampening curtains to help reduce noise generated by pile driving and sheet pile driving.

Concrete bridge decks are complete for two bridges over 21 St: one for BNSF Railway train traffic and the other for Otter Tail Valley Railroad traffic. The OTVR railroad track is completed and operational. BNSF trains will continue to use the temporary BNSF railroad track (shoo-fly) until approximately the end of October, when the permanent track is expected to be installed.

Approximately 70% of excavation has been completed (204,000 cubic yards), and 69,000 feet of structural support piling (69% of total contract amount) has been installed. The stormwater pumping station has also been completed.

A second period of night construction is expected to follow completion of the BNSF permanent track in late October/early November. More details on that will be coming in the fall.
