62ND MIDWESTERN EXHIBITION OPENS AT THE ROURKE
MOORHEAD – The Rourke Art Gallery + Museum is pleased to announce The 62nd Midwestern Invitational Exhibition of Fine Art, an exhibit of over eighty artists from across the continent invited to submit work incorporating the theme of “On the Autobiographical Impulse”.
The Midwestern takes place every summer. The exhibit celebrates the founding of the original Rourke Gallery on 18 June 1960. It is the longest running annual exhibition in the region. Among the many traditions of the Midwestern, artists are invited to submit work on a theme which changes from year to year. Awards this year are being selected by longtime gallery artist Kathleen Ristinen, who has also designed and fabricated this year’s award medals.
The preview of the exhibit is Friday 18 June from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Beverages and artfully prepared foods will be available for preview-goers. Preview Tickets are available for purchase at the door: $15 for Rourke members and $30 for the public. The last day to view the exhibition is Sunday 5 September 2021.
MOORHEAD LIBRARY ANNOUNCES STORYTIME FEATURING GOOSEBERRY PARK PLAYERS
MOORHEAD – The Moorhead Public Library is teaming up with the Gooseberry Park Players and The Rourke Art Museum for a fun Storytime for youth of all ages. On Tuesday, June 29 at 6:30 p.m., the Gooseberry Park Players will present a story as told by Belle from Beauty and the Beast. The Storytime will take place at The Rourke Art Museum (521 Main Ave., Moorhead).
Children of all ages are invited to free library Storytimes which are being held at The Rourke Art Museum for the summer. Storytimes take place weekly on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. These events are open to the public and offered free of charge.
WEST FARGO STREET FAIR DATE AND TEMPORARY LOCATION ANNOUNCED
WEST FARGO – The West Fargo Street Fair will take place 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 19, on Bluestem Drive south of 31st Avenue E. The section of Bluestem Drive behind the Veterans Mall and in front of Boulevard Square will be closed to traffic from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 19.
Parking will be available in the WEX Health parking lot (700 26th Ave. E.), Prairie Heights Church (319 32nd Ave. E.) and Freedom Elementary School (401 26th Ave. E.). Shuttles will run between the Street Fair location and the parking lots through a collaboration with the West Fargo Public School District.
Event organizers moved the event to the temporary location while the normal location is under construction.
“The City of West Fargo and our event management partners, West Fargo Events, continue to work diligently to offer community events at temporary locations during The Yards on Sheyenne construction,” said Mark Simmons, West Fargo City Commissioner and president of the West Fargo Events board of directors. “We will be back in the original location for the 2022 season.”
Launched in 2019, the West Fargo Street Fair is a community event designed to celebrate the best of local artisans, crafters, vendors, food trucks and services by lining Bluestem Drive for the community to shop from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event will also feature food trucks at the former Blvd parking lot just north of Larkspur Drive.
FOOD TRUCKS & TRAILS FESTIVAL
MOORHEAD – On July 24, starting at 10 am, hundreds will gather at MB Johnson Park for the inaugural Food Trucks and Trails Festival. There will be activities throughout the day including trail running, mountain bike races, family activities, and food trucks. At the end of the day, the event turns into a 21+ campout complete with a concert by D Mills & The Thrills, camping access, beer and wine by 701 Eateries, and campfires.
“We’re excited to bring all three of us together to create this new event. We want to get people outdoors and enjoy MB Johnson in new ways. It’s only going to get bigger and better from here!” said Jon Walters, Founder and CEO of Nature of the North, one of the founding companies planning the event.
The organizing members of Food Trucks and Trails Festival are Jon Walters of Nature of the North, Brian Larry of Where is that Food Truck, and Dani Haekenkamp of Quirky Event Planning. “This event is about experiences. We want to bring in as many local businesses as possible to provide an amazing time for everyone who comes,” said Brian Larry, Founder of Where is that Food Truck.
