First Annual Bicycle Rodeo and Safety Fair

DARE Officer Ethan Meehan (shown) demonstrated the wisdom of wearing safety belts with the department’s new roll-over simulator. With a dummy behind the wheel and other dummies aboard, the simulator spins and sends them flying out the window — a reminder of what happens to unbelted passengers in a real-life accident. Dozens of Moorhead parents brought their children to the Moorhead Police Department’s first annual Bicycle Rodeo and Safety Fair. Held in partnership with the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, the free event in the parking lot of the Law Enforcement Center included bike safety instruction, a chance to see what’s inside emergency vehicles, creating beaded ID bracelets and being fingerprinted by police volunteers.
