History buffs got a unique look at a familiar river on July 18, when paddlers boarded kayaks and canoes for a “History of The Red River” river paddling excursion hosted by Moorhead Parks and Recreation and River Keepers. After a brief lesson on kayaking and canoeing basics, participants launched their vessels from the landing near the Hjemkmost Center, (202 1st Ave N. in Moorhead), and paddled off on a guided river tour.
The next river paddling excursion is a scavenger hunt scheduled for August 15. The event is hosted by River Keepers and is open to participants of all skill levels. The excursion costs $15 per person or $10 per person for those providing their own vessels.
