Fargo Fire Department Responds to a House Fire at 1103 University Dr. S.

FARGO, N.D. (Aug. 4, 2013) – The Fargo Fire Department responded to a house fire located at 1103 University Dr. S. in Fargo. The caller indicated that the clothes dryer was on fire.

Fire crews arrived on scene in just under four minutes and saw smoke coming from the basement windows. The owner of the home was outside and advised fire personnel all people and pets were out of the house and the fire was in the basement.  Fire crews proceeded to the basement where they encountered heavy smoke conditions.  The fire, which was located in a corner of the basement, was quickly extinguished.

The exact cause of the fire is being investigated but appears to have started in or around the clothes dryer. The owner of the home indicated they had put cloths in the dryer and then went back up stairs.  Shortly after, a burning smell was noticed and when they went back downstairs, smoke was coming from the dryer.  That is when they exited the basement and called 9-1-1.

The Fargo Fire Departments reminds everyone that it is a good idea to remain at home when operating appliances.

Public Hearing September 3 to Discuss Proposed Development

FARGO, N.D. (August 1, 2013) – The City of Fargo Planning Department has received an application for a large commercial and apartment development on the northeast corner of 52nd Avenue South and Interstate 29. The proposed development would include 50 acres of commercial zoning and multi-family zoning that would allow for over 900 apartments. A small park and some single family housing are also proposed. The proposed development site is adjacent to the Timberline, Meadow Creek and Fox Run neighborhoods. The property owner is Fred Hector, Jr. and the developer is Paces Lodging.

The Fargo Planning Commission will be holding a hearing on the proposed development on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Fargo City Hall, 200 3rd St. N. The proposed development application includes a requested change to the growth plan, zoning amendments and a subdivision. Information on the applications is available on the homepage of the City of Fargo website, www.cityoffargo.com. Comments on the proposed development can be sent to the Fargo Planning Department at 200 3rd St. N., Fargo or via email at planning@cityoffargo.com.

The Fargo Planning Department is closely studying the impact of the proposed developments as three story apartments immediately adjacent to Fox Run are not consistent with the city growth plan and there could be very large increases in traffic on 32nd Street, adjacent to Timberline and Fox Run.
